Daily games like Wordle that are actually different

By Last Minute Productions · Updated · Game details checked October 2026

Quick answer

The best daily games like Wordle that play differently are Connections (grouping words), Contexto and Semantle (guessing by meaning), Queens and Pips (logic), Worldle and TimeGuessr (geography), Framed and Bandle (films and songs), Murdle (a mystery) and STRANDED (creative answers where the rarest one scores most). If you want Wordle itself with a twist, try Quordle or Nerdle.

LMP makes STRANDED, and it is marked wherever it appears. Every other game here is made by someone else and is not affiliated with us. Nobody paid to be listed.

What people love about Wordle is less the letters than the ritual: one puzzle, the same for everyone, done in a few minutes, compared over breakfast. Every game here keeps that ritual. Most of them change what you are actually doing.

If you want Wordle, but more

1.Quordle

Word puzzles5 to 10 minutesFree

3.Connections

Word puzzles3 to 10 minutesFree

Sort sixteen words into four groups of four that share something, with four mistakes allowed.

Visit Connections →

4.Contexto

Word meaning5 to 20 minutesFree

Find a secret word with unlimited guesses; each guess is ranked by how close its meaning is, with the answer at number 1.

It trains a different muscle from spelling games: thinking about how words are used together.

Visit Contexto →

5.Semantle

Word meaning10 minutes to an hourFree

Guess a secret word; each guess gets a similarity score from a language model, with 100 meaning you found it.

The hardest of the meaning games, with a numeric score that rewards patient hunting.

If you want no single right answer

6.STRANDEDMade by LMP

Creative answersAbout 2 minutesFree; no account needed

Answer six open-ended questions a day; the fewer players who gave your answer, the more it scores, and the further a crashed alien runs on his way home.

The opposite of Wordle: there is no one answer to find. Each of six daily questions accepts hundreds, and the fewer people who gave yours, the more it scores. Two friends can both do well with completely different answers, and your total picks one of nine endings. Made by LMP.

Visit Pips →

9.Murdle

Logic puzzles5 to 15 minutesFree daily puzzle

Visit Worldle →

11.TimeGuessr

Film, music and art1 to 5 minutesFree

Guess the film from stills, with another frame shown after each wrong guess, up to six.

The STRANDED title scene: a small green alien beside his crashed ship in the woods at night

STRANDED: not a Wordle clone

STRANDED is a free daily browser game made by Last Minute Productions. Each day everyone gets the same six open-ended questions, such as "Name something you shouldn't do on a first date." Each accepted answer scores between 1 and 500 points depending on how few other players gave it, and the total out of 3,000 decides how far a small crashed alien gets on his way home and which of nine endings he reaches.

How to play STRANDED

  1. Open stranded.run. It runs in any phone or computer browser. There is nothing to download and no sign-up.
  2. Answer six questions, 25 seconds each. If an answer is not on the list, you lose nothing and can try another until the clock runs out.
  3. Rarer answers score more. An answer given by about 30% of players is worth around 100 points; one given by fewer than 1 in 200 is worth 500.
  4. Watch the alien run. He runs through the woods, the farm, downtown and Area 39 as your points add up.
  5. See your ending. Your total decides which of nine endings you get. Scores of 2,201 or more reach the secret one and a bonus question.

The full rules and the scoring table are on the how to play STRANDED page.

Why come back tomorrow

A new run with six new questions opens every day at midnight US Central time, and everyone gets one try. Finishing on consecutive days builds a streak, which earns silver, gold and diamond skins at 10, 25 and 50 days.

Accounts and saved progress

You can play STRANDED without an account. Signing in with Google is optional: it keeps your streak and skins on any device, gives you a player name, and lets you start a friends' race and appear on race and creator leaderboards. Without signing in, your progress is kept in your browser.

Questions people ask

What games are like Wordle but different?

Connections, Contexto, Semantle, Queens, Pips, Murdle, Worldle, TimeGuessr, Framed, Bandle and STRANDED all keep the one-puzzle-a-day format but ask you to do something other than guess a five-letter word.

Is STRANDED like Wordle?

Only in format: one run a day, the same for everyone, in a browser. The play is different. Wordle has one answer to find; STRANDED has hundreds of accepted answers per question and scores yours higher the fewer players gave it.

What is the closest game to Wordle?

Quordle, which is four Wordles at once with nine guesses, and Nerdle, which is Wordle with a maths equation instead of a word.

Are these Wordle alternatives free?

All of them can be played free in a browser. Queens needs a LinkedIn account, and NYT Games accounts are optional for Wordle and Connections.
